MAJOR - 4th of July Star

Hello, my name is Major. I am approximately 14 years old. (Only my hairdresser knows for sure and she's not talking!!) I was found as a stray about five years ago and brought to DFW Golden Retriever Rescue; I didn't have much hair and I had a lot of fleas. A really nice man adopted me and we moved to Tennessee. However, one day my owner was suddenly taken ill and died of a heart attack. Provisions were made for me to go back to see my buddies at Rescue. I spent a few days with Auntie Carol and she called my present Mom and asked if she knew of anyone who would be willing to adopt a nice old dog like me. Well, I guess Mom and Dad are quite the "pushovers". They flew down to Dallas and took one look at me and decided I was going to live with them. As Dad says, "What's one more when you have five already?" Dad and I are now best buddies and we go for a walk every morning. Dad says it is so I can lose some weight. Who does he think he is kidding? He needs exercise too!! The walk is my favorite part of the day. I bark and bark at Dad until he gets the leash and away we go.

Here are pictures of me taken at Christmas 1996 when I first came to live with Mom and Dad.

It is now summer 1999. I am still full of energy and enjoy at least two to three dips a day in the pool. I have also trimmed down from 116 pounds to 86 pounds over the past three years~~

Well, I think I will sign off now. I hear Dad rattling cellophane in the kitchen. Dad probably has goodies for me. See you!!
Footnote: In late 1999 we discovered that Major had inoperable prostate cancer. Major went to Rainbow Bridge in February 2000. He was a fabulous Golden. We miss you Major!!!
