Quincy - Our First Golden Rescue Dog

"Unforgettable" by Frank Sinatra

Last Update on Quincy:  Quincy left this world with style on December 11, 2009 at the age of 15 years, 2 months, and one day.  For once, cancer was not the culprit.   He died of chronic renal failure.  He was an absolute gentleman to the end.  He was our very first Golden rescue and he outlived all of the first generation of Goldens as well as the second generation.  He welcomed each new rescue (whether permanent or not) into our home and always shared his space, his toys, and his treats with them.  If I could clone one dog, it would be Quincy.  Here are a few pictures from his last year of life. Fly free, my Sweet Pea, I'll see you again someday!

Hello, my name is Quincy. I am a Golden Retriever. I originally belonged to a family who purchased me as an 8 week old puppy, but as I grew up, they decided they no longer had time for me and one of their children was allergic to me. Because of the allergies, I had to stay in the backyard which I didn't like at all because I am a very social dog. I would just sit and stare through the window. They really were nice people, but finally, they decided I needed a better home so they called DFW Golden Retriever Rescue. The nice lady at DFW told them a lady would be coming into town later that week to look for a young dog like myself. So my former owners took me to the kennel so the lady could see me.

There were lots of dogs like me at the Rescue kennel waiting for someone to love them. I saw the lady drive up and start looking at all the dogs. I was getting kind of scared she wouldn't like me or would adopt another dog. She really liked a six month old puppy in the run next to mine. However, when it was time to choose one, she chose ME!! I flew home with her on a great big airplane and met my new brothers - at that time, there were three of them: two Jack Russells and a big Golden named Woode. What a goofball!!

I am so happy I was adopted by this family. I get lots of attention and have a great time playing with the other dogs. One of my really favorite things to do is curl up on the couch with Mom and watch TV. Sometimes I even get to share her popcorn.!! I'm really Mom's dog but Dad is starting to come around. DON'T TELL MOM THIS PART - When she is out of town on business, Dad lets me sleep on her side of the bed!! Yippee!! Life is good!!

Update: Quincy has become Mom's favorite snuggling, lovey boy. He sleeps in the bed every night no matter who is home or out of town. Quincy has never met a person or a critter he didn't like. Quincy favorite thing to do is go hiking and he can run like the wind!!! We were lucky he was our first rescue dog!!!

Update on Quincy Christmas 2006:  Quincy is now 12 years old and my "heart" dog.  He is slowing down a bit in his old age but still loves his favorite activity - riding in the car!  It doesn't matter where you go as long as he comes along  for the ride!  Here are a couple recent pictures of him!

and relaxing after a hard day's work!!

I'm a pretty lucky boy. I have gone from "outside dog" to sleeping in the Master's bed (usually when Mom's out of town!!).
